Blog Post #2: Top 10

Hi Blog! Here's some ideas that I think are most important to note from the material over Module 2!

.) While technological learning may be helpful and satisfactory, it's important to remember that true transformative learning requires students to use skills such as analysis, decision making, and knowledge building.

.) The SAMR model can be represented as a swimming pool with substitution and augmentation in the shallow end, and modification and refinement in the deep end. To fully immerse students in learning, teachers need to create plans that facilitate transformative experiences.

.) To add onto the SAMR model representation, "flotation devices" are a symbol for support systems, including leadership, coaches, professional development, and professional learning network.

.) Technology alone isn't enough to empower learners into deeper and creative learning. The ISTE model encourages teachers to rethink traditional approaches and allow students more control over their learning.

.) The following types of learning are categorized as "innovative student-centered classroom practices". These include: problem-based learning, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, design thinking, computational thinking, and cooperative learning.

.) It's important to shift from engagement to empowerment to ensure that students can take ownership over their learning and develop self-determination skills.

.) The meaningful learning framework proposes that learners and technology should work collaboratively during the learning process. Learning material should be handled in a way that urges the learner to take ownership over a particular problem, as opposed to "giving the teacher what they want".

.) Not all technology will lead to active paricipation and students taking ownership over learning. Technology should be integrated in the classroom strategically to promote creative and deep thinking.

.) Be mindful of the five characteristics of meaningful learning with technology. These include Active Learning Characteristics, Cooperative/Collaborative Learing Characteristics, Constructive Learning Characteristics, Authentic Learning Characteristics, and Intentional/Goal-Directed Characteristics.
